I have a class of middle school students who are still learning the basics, like "I am" and " I can". It gets a little frustrating because they never really seem to grasp any of the concepts even if I cover the material very slowly. Yesterday I asked one of my students, Amy, a question from the reading. It was "Does Nick think he's in trouble?" She gave me a confused look, so I asked her again. She then replied "Mouse." There was a picture of a hamster on the page, so her answer wasn't completely random, but still I'm not really sure what to do with that class.
