A couple weekends ago, Walita and I took a little trip together to Gyeong Ju. Walita is breaking her contract and leaving very soon because she got a really good job in Toronto. I'm really sad to see her go, but that's the reality of living in Korea. Friends are always coming and going. At least, when I go home Walita isn't too far away.
The plan for the day was to go to the Bulguksa Temple in Gyeong Ju and take in some culture. Unfortunately, things often don't work out as planned. At first, everything seemed to be going well. The weather was beautiful and we had very little trouble getting into Gyeong Ju. Unfortunately we didn't realize that it was the weekend of the cherry blossom festival, which is a very big deal here. As a result, traffic was horrendous. We sat on a barely moving bus for almost an hour and a half before scraping the temple idea. We got off the bus and walked for about 45 minutes to the Bomun Resort. The resort surrounds a lake that is lined with beautiful cherry blossom trees. There are rollercoasters at nearby Gyeong Ju park and a Hilton there too. We strolled along the lake and watched all the families and couples. We came upon an ATV course and decided to give it a try. It was an amazing time! The guy let us ride them for a long time and go around the course 3 times. Afterwards, we walked around for a bit more and after a little frustration and a crazy taxi driver, we finally made it back to Daegu exhausted but happy.
